10th graders launch into the Fall with the PolliNation Expedition. In Science they will explore evolution, genetics, and ecological importance of native and introduced bees. In World History students will connect the life of bees to discussions of philosophers and the larger themes of democracy, justice, and society. Writing informed arguments for or against a position will parallel reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley in English. Students will conclude the semester working to create a native bee habitat and a bee infographic that presents an argumentative thesis based on knowledge that resonated with them throughout the semester. The Fieldwork program will work to enhance and extend student learning as they explore and connect all things bees.
The Spring 2019 Learning Expedition for 10th grade is Surviving and Thriving. Students will take part in many Fieldwork events including the annual Winter Camping trip as well as opportunities to work with local organizations that help and support people experiencing homelessness in Nevada County.
